12 killed as two US choppers crash in Iraq Initial reports suggest another Black Hawk has crashed
Twelve soldiers have been killed and nine others wounded in the crash of two US military helicopters in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. A US occupation force spokesman has confirmed that two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters had come down. There was no word on possible Iraqi casualties on the ground.
One of the helicopters that crashed on Saturday was hit by a rocket propelled grenade (RPG), a US officer at the scene said.
"I know one of the helicopters was hit by an RPG on the tail wing," said the officer who declined to be identified. An Iraqi police officer said that he saw assailants ambushing a US foot patrol in the area, prompting the intervention of a Black Hawk helicopter. A missile was then fired towards the chopper, which crashed into a second Blackhawk as it tried to dodge the missile, he said.

Lockyer defends call for groping review of Arnold
SACRAMENTO -- Attorney General Bill Lockyer said Friday that part of the reason he has been insisting Gov.-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger submit to an independent review of groping allegations is because some-one came to him recently with information about an alleged incident last year.
"What I know is not firsthand," the Democratic attorney general told KGO radio in San Francisco. "It's not evidence that would be admissible in trial. It's somebody who came up to me and said, 'Hey this terrible thing happened to my daughter-in-law last year.'
"Well, I don't know what the facts are. But I think he's got to deal with these things. Maybe it's beyond the statute of limitations. Maybe it's exaggerated. Maybe it's political. I don't know. But there's too many of them."
Lockyer said he was told of the alleged incident two days before the Oct. 7 recall election.

The move is intended to fulfill a campaign promise, made by Schwarzenegger last month, that he would address the accusations after the election. During the campaign, he admitted to some past sexual misbehavior and issued a general apology but declined to address specifics.
Several women's organizations that pushed for an investigation suggested that a review commissioned by Schwarzenegger would not be independent.
"If someone came to me and said, 'I am working for Arnold Schwarzenegger and I want to investigate what you said about him,' I wouldn't feel very secure," said Helen Grieco, executive director of the California National Organization for Women. "An independent investigation would be the right call."
The issue threatened to divert attention from Schwarzenegger's effort to build an administration and get a jump on some of the state's biggest problems 11 days before his inauguration.
Shortly after winning the Oct. 7 recall election, Schwarzenegger, a Republican, described the accusations of sexual misconduct as "old news." It was generally expected that he would not revisit the topic, at least publicly, until he had settled into office and fulfilled some of his other promises.
